Programs for everyone

Makerspace Open Lab: The Makerspace will be open for anyone who wants to check it out and use some of our equipment to make cool projects. Room assistants will be available to guide you in the basic use of our provided tools. No registration is required. Come with an idea and leave with a finished project! NOTE: Everyone needs a signed waiver to use the Makerspace room; people under the age of 18 must have a waiver signed by a parent or guardian. 

Makerspace Open Labs are held on the following weekly schedule:

  • Sundays, 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM
  • Tuesdays, 5:30 PM – 7:30 PM
  • Thursdays, 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM 
  • Saturdays, 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM

Programs for kids

Family Storytime in the Park: Live storytimes are back! Join Sam in Tualatin Community Park Tuesdays at 10:30 AM from April 5 through May 27 for stories, song, and some serious silliness! We'll be there in rain or shine, in the Big Shelter. Stick around after storytime for a bubble dance party! For families with children ages 0 to 7.

Tweens (grades 4-7) GNG: Graphic Novel Group

Tween Graphic Novel Group Online: Tweens, get together for a fun conversation and book-related activity. We might even draw together. Meetings are held on Zoom on the last Thursday of the month at 4:00 PM. To participate, first register online, then email Alec at achunn@tualatin.gov for a FREE copy of the month's book pick. For students in grades 4-7.

Kids Make Stuff: Dino Terrariums

Kids Make Stuff: Join us in our Makerspace from 4:00-5:00 PM on the Wednesdays below to work on a featured creative project. For students in grades 1-6. Registration is required and space is limited (register here). Family help is encouraged for younger participants.

Book Babies Online: Join us live on Zoom at 10:30 AM on Wednesdays, April 13 through May 18 for Book Babies, a program of songs, bounces, clapping and books! Register here for the 6-week series and we'll send a Zoom link prior to our first meeting. All registrants will receive a bag of books that we will share during the series. For babies up to 18 months and their parents. Register now, space is limited!

Día de los Niños (Children's Day)

Día de los Niños (Children's Day): Come celebrate Children's Day (Friday, April 29) with the Tualatin Public Library! We'll have a special craft (god's eye) and a free book to celebrate! Craft and free book will be while supplies last! ¡Venga a celebrar el día de los niños (29 de Abril) con la biblioteca pública de Tualatin! ¡Tendremos una manualidad especial (ojo de dios) y un libro gratis para celebrar! las manualidades y los libros seran limitado!

Classical Up Close for Kids: Classical Up Close brings the musicians and instruments of the Oregon Symphony to small, casual spaces. These performances are designed for kids ages 2-7 to dance, sing along, and see the instruments in a fun and interactive way. Join us on Sunday, May 1 in the Community Room for two performances (10:30-11:15 AM or 11:45 AM-12:15 PM) and clap in between movements!

Children's Book Week: Visit the children's area of the library Monday, May 2 through Sunday, May 8 during open hours for a special week-long celebration of children’s books and the joy of reading. Complete a book character scavenger hunt for a prize or pick up take-home craft activities (while supplies last). For more information about this nationwide initiative, visit Every Child a Reader.

Teen Murder Mystery Night: Lights! Camera! Murder! Join us from 6:00-8:00 PM on Friday, May 13 for a murder mystery night at the library. Registration is requireddo it here. Aimee will assign you a character. Come dressed as the character and ready to solve the mystery! Free food and fun.

Teen Book Chat: Talk about this month's book and enjoy some pizza. Help us pick out future books to read. Chats are at 5:00 PM on the second Tuesday of the month; starting in April, chats will be held IN PERSON in the Community Room. To receive a free copy of this month's book, and to share your suggestions for future book chats, register here and Aimee will email you instructions for pick-up. Craft supplies

Teen Make Stuff: Join us in our new Makerspace after hours as we create awesome things—like stickers, or buttons, or more stickers or other things! Runs from 6:00-8:00 PM on the last Friday of the month; you must be in the library before 6:00 PM to participate. Registration is required (do it here);  For students in grades 6-12; participants under the age of 18 must have a waiver signed by a parent or guardian.

Pot-ting Party

Programs for adults & others

Pot-ting Party: Feeling green? The Tualatin Public Library is hosting a pot party. Does your houseplant need a bigger pot? Or is its pot a little too drab? Bring it by the Library and get it moved into a rad new home. We'll have terra cotta pots for you to paint, decorate, and bedazzle. We'll also have some fresh potting soil mixed up in case your plant needs to upgrade to something larger. We will also have a few small houseplants that you can move into a pot and take home. Wednesday, April 20 from 6:00-7:30 PM in the Makerspace. Registration is required (do it here). Kids and teens are welcome!

Celtic Harps, Rare Instruments & Wondrous Stories: Lisa Lynne and Aryeh Frankfurter perform with two Celtic harps, the rare Swedish nyckelharpa, Ukrainian bandura, cittern, and more. The audience will hear traditional instrumental music from Sweden and Ireland as well as heartwarming original compositions. They will present an enchanting blend of music and tales from their adventures as modern day troubadours. 1:00 PM Sunday, April 24 by the library hearth.

Gardening for Nutrition and Sustainability: Join Chad from Neighbors Nourishing Communities for a presentation about the history of agriculture, how to improve the nutrition of your food through gardening, and gardening practices for success here in the PNW. If you’ve ever struggled with tomatoes, peppers, or watermelon here in the Willamette Valley, come learn some secrets! Saturday, May 14 at 3:00 PM in the Community Room.

Eric Ching Trio: Drummer Eric Ching, who trained with jazz masters in NYC, brings standards and a few surprises with his trio, rounded out by Tim Gilson on upright bass and Mike Doolin on guitar. Come hear them Sunday, May 15 at 1:00 PM by the library hearth.

Make Your Own Seed Paper: Swing by the Tualatin Library Makerspace at 6:00 PM on Wednesday, May 18 to learn how to make seed paper: recycled paper, embedded with flower, vegetable or herb seeds that will sprout and grow when planted! All materials will be provided. Registration is required (do it here).

Take'n'Bake Online: On the first Saturday of each month we'll post an instructional video for a new delicious treat on our Facebook page and the City's YouTube channel at 9:00 AM. To view upcoming recipes and reserve a bag of dry ingredients to pick up from the library, go here; you can also use your own ingredients from home without registering. Makerspace How To

Makerspace How-To Series: Feeling overwhelmed with all of the possibilities in the Makerspace? Have a vague idea of a project but aren’t sure if it is possible using our equipment? Starting in January, join us in the Makerspace from 6:00-7:30 PM on the last Wednesday of each month as we outline a specific piece of equipment, how to use it, how to design for it and take a look at possible projects. Space is limited; registration is required and opens one month before the program.

Adult Book Discussion: Join us at 7:00 PM on the first Thursday of each month for an hour of lively book discussion. Our group is an informal and relaxed gathering of adults, with a respectful, congenial, and inquisitive atmosphere. Everyone is given an opportunity to participate in the discussion; however, participation is not a requirement. Listeners are welcome! Starting in April 2022, the group meets in the Library Community Room. See here for more information about the group and a complete list of upcoming titles.
