Water Conservation

Water conservation at your home
Protecting Our Planet

Of all the earth's water, 99% is salt water, frozen, or too polluted for human consumption. Only 1% of the earth's water is available for drinking.

Here in the Pacific Northwest, we're used to thinking of water as plentiful and widely available. Well-meaning reports about our abundant snowpack and rainfall serve to perpetuate the myth. But, because of increasingly hot, dry, summers, climate change, and population growth, that is no longer the case. Even though our supply is limited, water demands continue to grow.

The City of Tualatin promotes the efficient, economic and environmentally sound use of our water. As our community has grown so has our water needs. We all need to use water wisely to make sure that we have it when we need it, to reduce the cost of developing new supplies and to leave more water in the rivers for recreation and wildlife.

What Is Tualatin Doing To Promote Conservation?

Great Question! The City of Tualatin is a member of the Regional Water Providers Consortium, a group of 22 regional water providers across the Portland metropolitan area. The consortium focuses on promoting a regional approach to one of our most valuable assets - water. We believe water is a regional resource and should be treated as such to ensure responsible and equitable management for current and future generations.

One major component of the consortiums work is promote water conservation. We collaborate to provide regional conservation messaging, education materials, and resources for our customers to promote water stewardship. We encourage you to visit the Consortium's website for ways you can conserve water and save on your monthly bill. There are a number of resources available including education materials for children, water saving tips for both indoors and out, your Weekly Watering Number, and much more!

We Can Make A Difference!

We did it with curbside recycling. It's time we do it with water. Environmental stewardship can take many forms. Our region leads the way in recycling. It's time we lead the way in water conservation. By conserving water we can delay building costly new infrastructure and finding new water sources.

Let's work together and conserve our water, before we face a crisis.
