Construction at the Martinazzi Avenue/Sagert Street Intersection is Complete!

Martinazzi/Sagert Intersection

Construction is wrapping up on improvements to the busy intersection of Martinazzi Avenue and Sagert Street. The project primarily addresses traffic congestion, but also includes elements to improve bicycle and pedestrian access and safety.

Designed to optimize the flow of vehicle traffic, the Martinazzi/Sagert project installed new traffic signals to replace stop signs.

Additional improvements include high-visibility crosswalks, curb ramps and new sidewalks that connect to all four corners of the intersection. Bicycle lanes have been reconfigured, and access improved to the existing public transit stops.

This intersection is in the heart of the Martinazzi Woods neighborhood, but many Tualatin residents travel through it every day. The Martinazzi/Sagert project is one of the signature projects for Tualatin Moving Forward, the transportation bond program approved by voters in May 2018.

The Martinazzi/-Sagert improvements have become the City’s most popular project on social media.

Public engagement, planning and design work began in 2019. Construction got underway in July 2021, with Brown Contracting, Inc. as the general contractor. The project cost is $1.7 million. After three years to design and build the project, City Manager Sherilyn Lombos says “Thank you for your patience!”

The final result was worth the wait. “The signals will help traffic flow better and improve safety. Drivers won’t need to guess any longer about what others might be doing”, explains Tualatin Moving Forward program manager Bill Evonuk, P.E.

The Martinazzi/Sagert intersection also includes a sidewalk art museum that has examples of sidewalk art designs introduced citywide. Sidewalk Artists include:
