Celebrating Public Service
May is for Everyday Heroes: Celebrating Public Service
Move over, flowers — May is blooming with appreciation for the folks who keep our communities strong, safe, and running smoothly!
- The first full week of May kicks off Public Service Recognition Week — a time to give a big shout-out to all the dedicated government employees (at every level and in every department) who serve with heart and hustle. From answering emergency calls to processing permits, managing parks and libraries, to maintaining public safety, these often behind-the-scenes stars are the reason our towns and cities thrive.
- The second full week of May is National Police Week - a time to recognize the law enforcement community's contributions throughout the nation. We honor the service and sacrifice of law enforcement officers and offer support to their families and colleagues.
- The third full week of May is National Public Works Week - May keeps the celebration rolling in recognizing Public Works, specifically. They build, repair, and maintain the infrastructure we rely on every single day. Roads, water systems, sanitation, and more — public works teams help (literally) lay the groundwork for our daily lives.
So whether it’s the person helping helping you find your next great book, keeping us safe, or the crews fixing the roadway markings during your morning commute — May is the month to say thank you.
Let’s show some love to our public servants — the real MVPs of May!
