Our beloved K9 Tony's last day of service will be Thursday, July 10, 2025.
Background and Training
K-9 Tony, a German Shepherd born on April 19, 2015, was imported from the Netherlands by Vohne Liche Kennels of Denver, Indiana. He was acquired by the department in September 2016 and certified by the Oregon Police Canine Association (OPCA) in early 2017 as a narcotics detection K-9. Tony was initially certified in heroin, methamphetamine, and cocaine detection and, in 2023, became one of the first dogs in the state to be certified in fentanyl detection—an essential capability in today’s fight against opioid abuse.
He is currently certified by both OPCA and the International Police Canine Association (formerly the California Narcotics Canine Association) in the detection of heroin, methamphetamine, cocaine, and fentanyl.
