Teen Volunteers make summer reading possible!

Every year in April teens are invited to fill out an application to volunteer during the summer at the library. Each candidate then goes through an interview process where they explain why they want to volunteer. The teens that make it through the interview go on to be some of our best and most dedicated volunteers!

When asked why the love volunteering during summer reading, we hear things like:

"Because it was something new that I hadn't done before and I thought it would be a cool new perspective for me."

"I felt like it was a good opportunity...to have a fun time."

"I really love it when the librarians, my mom, my dad, my aunts, my uncles they would read to me and I just thought having that experience and being able to share it with others was just really fulfilling to me."

The teens are tasked with various projects. These include inventorying and pulling books, creating displays, helping out with children's and teen programming and gently hounding you about signing up for summer reading. We truly would not be able to run summer reading without these volunteers, so make sure to thank them for their hard work!
