Ice Age Floods

Flood

Tualatin was a crossroads for the Ice Age Floods – massive floods stretching across multiple states more than 10,000 years ago. These floods carved many of the distinguishing features of the Northwest’s unique landscape and deposited the rich soils found in the Willamette Valley. The scale of these floods is difficult to imagine. Now, thanks to an animated video from the National Park Service and the Ice Age Floods Institute, you can see how these dozens of floods reshaped the landscape.

Tualatin Library is an interpretive center on the Ice Ages Floods Geologic Trail, partnering with the National Parks Service and the Ice Age Floods Institute, Lower Columbia Chapter . Thanks to our partnership, Tualatin Library offers the National Parks Service Megaflood Adventure Junior Ranger Activity Book. Kids can complete local activities to earn a Junior Ranger badge! Tualatin Library also offers a Passport To Your National Parks stamp for the Ice Age Floods National Geologic Trail.

Learn more about how the Ice Age Floods impacted our local area, or by walking the Tualatin River Greenway Trail adjacent to the Library.
