Mayor's Note (July 2022)

Mayor Frank Bubenik Headshot

Summer has officially begun, in name and weather. Like many of you, I have welcomed the sun over the last few weeks and enjoyed spending time with family and neighbors outdoors. Another welcome activity of this season is Summer Reading at the Library!

This year's theme is: Read Beyond the Beaten Path. Readers young and a little less young are encouraged to track their reading through the summer and submit their logs to the Library. Kids and teens will receive a free book for every reading log they turn in. Over 1,500 people have signed up so far, and many families are participating together. A special thank you is due to the Friends of the Tualatin Library for providing free books.

The Library is also a summer lunch site this year. Free summer lunches are available Monday through Friday at the Library's Community Room between noon and 12:30pm. Lunches are limited to youth eighteen years of age or younger. I feel proud that we can partner with the Tigard-Tualatin School District, Oregon Department of Education, and USDA to provide this needed resource in Tualatin.

All of this, and I have not even mentioned the many programs happening daily at the Library. Check out the Library's webpages for an updated list, including July Jams, Science Spectacular, Teen Book Chat, and the Makerspace Open Lab.
