Signal Box Art Wrap Call to Artists

PROJECT DESCRIPTION:

The Tualatin Arts Advisory Committee encourages artists to submit original artwork to beautify our city by transforming the traffic signal control boxes found on street corners into a collection of public art. Artwork will be reproduced as a vinyl wrap and applied to traffic signal boxes throughout the City.

This program is open to all artists, graphic designers, illustrators, photographers, and student artists. Artwork may be abstract or representational.

SPECIFICATIONS:

Chosen artwork will be transformed into vinyl wraps that will be professionally installed. Art will cover all four sides of the signal box. The life expectancy of each wrap is approximately five to seven years. There is no required theme for the work, but the work must not contain any representation of traffic lights, signs, or signals, and must be appropriate for display in a public space without distracting drivers. Submissions that include advertising or logos or are political, religious, or sexual in nature will not be considered. Submitted designs must be the artist’s own work and does not violate another’s copyright. The City of Tualatin and Tualatin Arts Advisory Committee shall retain sole discretion of final artwork selection.

LOCATION & PROPERTY DESCRIPTION

The selected art will be installed on traffic signal boxes located throughout the City of Tualatin, locations are indicated on the linked map. The Tualatin Arts Advisory Committee, in consultation with City of Tualatin staff, will determine which location is best suited to the selected artwork.

ARTIST HONORARIUM:

Selected artist(s) will receive a commission of $500 per box. Semi-finalists will be chosen by the Tualatin Arts Advisory Committee, and final voting will be opened to the general public through the City of Tualatin’s website.
