Suspect Attempts to Elude Police and Rams Patrol Cars

Damaged Tualatin Police Patrol Car

On Tuesday, November 8, 2016, Tualatin Police observed a 1996 red Ford Ranger pickup truck traveling at a high rate of speed and in an erratic manner, eastbound on SW Tualatin-Sherwood Road.  The Ford truck swerved into the lane of the Tualatin Police vehicle, forcing the Tualatin Police Sergeant to swerve to avoid being hit.  This vehicle matched the description of one that Sherwood Police Department had attempted two separate traffic stops on just minutes before, near that same area.

The Tualatin Police Sergeant turned on his emergency lights and initiated a traffic stop but the driver of the Ford truck attempted to elude the officer.  Tualatin Police with the assistance of a Tigard Police K9 Officer pursued the driver of the Ford truck throughout Tualatin.  The driver of the Ford truck hit the Tigard Police vehicle while trying to turn left from SW 65th Avenue onto SW Prosperity Park, causing the suspect’s Ford truck and the Tigard patrol vehicle to go partially into the ditch.  The driver of the Ford truck was able to drive out of the ditch and ram the front of the Tualatin Police vehicle.

At that point, the driver of the Ford truck surrendered to the police and was taken into custody without incident.  There were no injuries to anyone or the police K9 and only minor damage sustained to both patrol vehicles during the incident.

The driver of the Ford truck was identified as Nathan R. Apilada, 37 years of age, of Gresham.  Mr. Apilada is being charged with four counts of felony attempting to elude a police officer, two counts of attempting to assault a police officer, and two counts of first degree criminal mischief.  He will be lodged in the Washington County Jail.  A booking photo will be available through the jail.

Nothing further at this time.
