The Community Services Officer (CSO) assists the Police Department with operational support, responds to lower priority calls for service such as graffiti, thefts, parking concerns, abandoned vehicles, lost or found property and neighborhood complaints. The Community Services Officer also performs crime prevention work and community public relations activities.
Provides assistance to sworn officers, participates in investigating criminal, civil, code and traffic violations. Obtains, transports and preserves evidence. Completes police reports and prepares cases for filing of charges and testifies in court. Assists officers at traffic crashes and other incidents as needed.
Provides non-sworn, general, complex and technical information to the public, officers, other agencies and city staff. Explains law enforcement practices, laws, codes, procedures or activities and provides references to community resources as appropriate.
Investigates Tualatin Municipal Code violations by making site inspections, locating responsible parties, researching applicable codes and taking appropriate action. Pursues voluntary code compliance through conversation, letters to violators, citations and court when necessary. Addresses neighborhood issues with residents providing solutions, referrals to additional resources or creative problem solving resolutions.
